Crochet Braids

It’s that time of the year again!! For this year I decided to try crochet braids as my winter protective style. Personally, I think I’ve been using protective styles all year. To me a protective style is any style that requires little to no manipulation of the hair. If you follow me on social media you probably have noticed I wear a lot of updos and flat twists styles. I don’t like to put a lot of stress on my hair. Also, I decided to try a crochet style to minimize  exposure of my hair and buildup from dirt.

I did not install this style myself. I’m too lazy for that. My stylist, Adrienne, installed this style (her information can be found below). I think the total time was around 3-3.5 hours and she used 9 packs of hair. So far I really love the style. I can wear it down or up. She didn’t braid too tight either. I don’t have hair pumps or feel my scalp pulsating. FYI, that is never good. Too much tension on the hair follicles can lead to permanent hair loss. Also, my line sister suggested that I get the Jamaican black castor oil with an applicator. Saved my life. I can easily oil my scalp without adding too much oil. I will probably keep this up for about a month and a half.

  1. FreeTress Box Braids (I bought 10 packs, used 9): $6.99/pack
  2. Tropical Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil Coconut w/ applicator: $4.99
  3. Annie Deluxe Extra Jumbo Day and Night Bonnet: $4.49
  4. Cute, protective style: Priceless (haha!)
